Items, and the buyer's state
The item list is short and quick. What deserves attention is the party list: an agreed rate per buyer, a credit limit, and the correct state on anyone across in Bihar so the tax treatment switches automatically. Doing that during the setup call is far easier than correcting a quarter of bills afterwards.
North Bengal's trading centre
Malda serves a catchment reaching towards Murshidabad and up into the Dinajpurs, and the material trade here is largely distribution outward rather than counter retail. The town is also on the route north, so a share of the goods passing through are headed further, which gives dealers here both local buyers and buyers a district away.
Distance changes what the paperwork has to do
A buyer two hours out cannot be spoken to at the counter, so the arrangement has to be written down: the rate agreed, the credit limit, the load that went and who received it. All three sit on the same record here, which means a disagreement is settled by opening the party rather than by two people remembering differently.
Inter-state and border trade
Some of Malda's trade runs towards Bihar and the border districts, and an inter-state sale changes the tax from CGST and SGST to IGST. That switches automatically once the buyer's state is on the party record, with the correct state code printed, and the vehicle details for the e-way bill are already captured on the delivery.
Offline billing and phone setup
Coverage across the district is uneven, so shops here run the Android app and bill offline, syncing when the network returns. Setup is a thirty-minute call from our Kolkata office, in Hindi, English or Bengali, and you raise a real bill before it ends.
